TRANSFORMERS: War For Cybertron(WFC for short) is the brand new game developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision. It is based many years before the Transformers movies or cartoons, and it is the very beginning of the Transformers story. It was released on Tuesday, June 22nd for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC.
First off, I would like to say that I am a huge Transformers fan and loved the cartoon, as well as the movies, and I was very excited about the game coming out so I could see how it all started. I wasn't disappointed. Although the campaign is very short, it was very exciting and fast-paced. Its a fun Third Person Shooter, which in my opinion, their aren't many good TPS out there(sorry Gears of War fans). However, in some spots it seems like it skips, and it feels like something is missing in some parts. But it does fill in some spots that many transformer fans didn't know, and new players will find fun and exciting. The artists did a great job of tweaking the appearance of each character, but keeping them recognizable. And the overall transformations from Robot-to-vehicle-to-Robot are very smooth and nice. Overall though, I have to say the campaign is fun and exciting, but way to short.
If there is any reason for someone to get this game though, it would be for the multiplayer. The multiplayer is the best thing about it, and it is very fun and enjoyable. I'm horrible at it, having about 1 kill per 4 deaths, but it is very fun and hard to put down. It is very hard at the beginning, but it will get easier as you play more.
In some ways, its kinda like Modern Warfare 2. You can create your own class from 4 different character types: Scout, Scientist, Leader, and Soldier. Each have their own weapons that you can choose, and special abilities. The more you play as a Leader, then you will level up as a Leader, which is kinda nice if you don't like one of the character types. You also can choose your killstreaks and use those to destroy your enemies even more. One of my favorite parts is to customize your characters weapons. Don't want a pistol? Then switch it for a minigun. Not a big fan of the assault rifle? Swap it out for a sniper.
Overall, I give TRANSFORMERS: War For Cybertron a rating of 8.6. The multiplayer is amazing, and most of the campaign is solid, but it definitely isn't game of the year quality. The graphics are fluid, and the controls for both robot mode and vehicle mode are user-friendly. This will be one of the best of the year because of its amazing multiplayer, which will be remembered for its unique twist.
MY ADVICE: This game's multiplayer is the best part about it, but do you really want to spend sixty bucks for just multiplayer? Try waiting for the price to drop, but don't wait to long to miss out on the action.
